Alexandra Gareau, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology)

Alexandra Gareau, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology) Dr. Gareau earned her veterinary and master’s degrees at the University of Montreal and then completing a one-year medicine and surgery rotating internship at Purdue University. She then completed a two-year fellowship in canine BMT and apheresis at North Carolina State University under the mentorship of Dr. Steven Suter VMD, MS, PHD, DACVIM(Oncology). After her fellowship, Dr. Gareau completed a 3-year medical oncology residency at the same institution. Before joining VCSG/CTAC, Dr. Gareau was a clinical instructor of medical oncology at North Carolina State University for one year. During her BMT/apheresis fellowship, Dr. Gareau collaborated with a strong multidisciplinary team within the Terry Center Hospital at NC State, gaining expertise in the complexities of these advanced procedures.

One of her most memorable cases involved Millie, a young English Cocker Spaniel diagnosed with lymphoma. Her stem cell donor traveled from the UK. Thanks to the procedure, Millie is cured of her cancer and is thriving, enjoying life with her family.

In collaboration with Dr. Suter, Dr. Gareau has contributed to published research in this field, helping to educate the veterinary community about canine stem cell transplants. Looking ahead, she is passionate about expanding the availability of this life-saving procedure, making it accessible to dogs worldwide.

Dr. Gareau is dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine, improving patient outcomes, and offering hope to families whose beloved companions are battling cancer.
